MY SUCCESS

Being overweight was new for me and I wasn’t sure what to do in order to get the weight off.  I found myself trying all sorts of different diets and diet pills – looking for the magic overnight cure. I even started going to the gym about 3 times a week but nothing seemed to help me.  I was frustrated because I thought I ate a relatively healthy diet, yet here I was, overweight and at risk for both diabetes and high cholesterol.

  
Even more frustrating was that I began tracking my food intake and was only consuming 1500 calories a day (per the advice of a different physician).  In 6 months, I lost only 5 pounds.  I was ready to give up!  That’s when I found Dr. Hempel’s pamphlet about his weight loss program in his office.  I decided to sign my husband and myself up. 


I was surprised at how much I learned about my own body and how some of the foods I thought were healthy were actually loaded with carbs and not good choices at all. After 9 months, I’ve lost 50 pounds and have a normal BMI.  I’m wearing a size 5 in jeans!!  I feel great as well as empowered to keep the weight off.  Through the course of the last 9 months I’ve learned a lot about food, the way it affects me and how to account for those days where all I want to eat is a Brownie Earthquake Sundae from Dairy Queen!


My top two suggestions are; don’t beat yourself up – if you missed a workout or you gave in to a craving; just pick yourself up and get back on track! Also, find an activity that you enjoy (or can at least tolerate) – you’ll be more likely to accomplish your 40 minutes of cardio.
